About

Green Fine Print is an online journal that explains EU sustainability law in plain English. It sets out what each rule says, who it applies to, what to do and by when. Its founders, Cenker Karagöz and Clara Christ, are also its editors. It began publishing in October 2026.

Who is Green Fine Print for?

Green Fine Print writes for three groups of readers at once:

- Owners and managers of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), who need to know whether a rule applies to them, what they have to do and by when.

- Sustainability and compliance professionals, such as ESG managers, consultants and auditors, who need the method, the data points and the exact legal references.

- People in policy and public affairs, who follow where a law stands and what happens next.

Every page puts the essentials first, in plain language, so all three get what they need before the detail starts.

What will I find here?

Every law we cover has its own hub, and our articles, glossary and rule finder build on it.

Regulation hubs

A hub is our main page on one EU law. It sets out who the law covers, what to do, the dates set in law and where the law stands. It gives the broad picture first and links to the official text for the detail. Each hub keeps a dated log of what changed. All regulations A–Z lists every hub.

The rule finder

The rule finder, on the homepage and the All regulations A–Z page, filters the hubs by where your company is and its sector.

Explainers

An Explainer walks through one obligation step by step. Each opens with who it applies to, what to do, the deadline and the legal basis. Some include a worked example with figures.

Decodes

A Decode explains a new legal text and where it stands, from a Commission proposal to adopted law. Each opens with what changed, who is affected, what to do and the deadline.

Both formats are listed under All articles.

The glossary

The glossary defines the terms our pages use, each with its legal source, who it applies to and an example. Articles link a term to its glossary page the first time it appears.

Where do the facts come from?

Green Fine Print takes its facts from official sources. These are the laws themselves, on EUR-Lex and in the Official Journal of the EU, and material from the European Commission and other EU bodies. Other outlets are context only, and we name them when we use them.

Every rule we explain names its act and article, with a link to the official text. Explainers and Decodes end with a "Based on" line naming the exact versions of the laws they rely on. We mark what is law, what is only a proposal and what is our own reading.
